Diabetes and Endocrinology
IN THIS SECTION
The Trust has a team specialising in Diabetes and Endocrinology
(hormone dysfunction).
Most services offered by the team are met through outpatient appointments,
although some inpatient services are provided for patients with complications
arising from diabetes or endocrine conditions.
Two consultants lead the team and a dedicated inpatient diabetes specialist nurse
provides training and support for patients. We also have close links with podiatrists
for the management of diabetic foot complications on the medical wards and have input
from the Dietetics Department.
The team runs the following clinics for adults:
Community diabetes specialist nurses work closely with the team to ensure care continues
with the patient. Ongoing monitoring of patients is co-ordinated between the hospital,
the diabetes specialist nurse (both in the hospital and community) and the patient’s GP.
