Transport and Parking

We want your journey to Stepping Hill Hospital to be as easy and convenient as possible. Please use the following information to plan your journey:

Bus or train

There is a frequent bus service which brings you into the hospital grounds from all surrounding areas. There are also reliable local train services available. The closest stations are Woodsmoor (5 minutes walk), Hazel Grove (10 minutes walk) and Stockport (20 minutes walk).

Cyclists and Pedestrians

We provide cycle racks across the site for cyclists. Please ensure you travel safely by dressing appropriately with adequate safety equipment such as lights and locks. We advise predestrians to wear suitable footwear and clothing.

Taxis

Public telephones and a taxi freephone are available at the main entrance and in outpatients departments A and B. Please don’t hesitate to ask a member of staff if help is required.

Driving

You can park in the various car parking spaces around the site, however there are a limited number of spaces available. All car parking spaces are Pay & Display. You must pay for and display a valid car parking ticket when leaving your car (see Car Parking Fees). Please see the hospital site map for the car parking zone information.

Car Parking Facilities

The Trust has the following categories of car parks and parking areas:

  • General patient and visitor

  • Staff only

  • Designated disabled parking areas

  • Mixed use

Each location is clearly signed to assist all users of the Trust’s car parking facilities.

Car Parking Fees

Car parking charges are as follows:

Up to two hours: £2.00
Between two to four hours: £3.00
More than four hours: £5.00

Reimbursed or reduced charges are available for the following categories of patient/visitor:

Outpatient who is required to attend an outpatient clinic:

(a) For a minimum of two appointments per month for three consecutive months, or

(b) For more than three consecutive months (Pay and display monies reimbursed or entitlement to free or reduced charge temporary car parking permit)

Long term visitor to patient

Inpatient expected to be in hospital for a minimum of three weeks – Reduced monthly, quarterly or six monthly charge.

Vehicles without a valid ticket or permit may be clamped.

Disabled car parking

Disabled car parking spaces are free of charge, however a valid blue badge must be displayed clearly on the vehicle. There are a number of disabled car parking spaces around the site which are clearly shown on the hospital site map.

Further transport information

Transport leaflet racks are located near the entrance to each outpatient department and Oak House, the hospital’s main entrance. For further travel information telephone 0161 228 7811 8am to 8pm, seven days a week.

Hospital Entrances are indicated on our site map via green triangles.

Please do not park on the road as this obstructs emergency vehicles.
